What?

COVERS is an acronym for COREN Verification System and is a public-private partnership initiative between the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and SilverClaws Ng. Ltd.

Why?

COVERS' primary objective is to promote the professionalism and quality of the Nigerian engineering profession by putting measures in place to combat the profession's most destabilizing threat: Quackery.

How?

COVERS employs high-end technologies to ensure that every Nigerian engineering practitioner and company can be properly identified and authenticated thus attacking quackery at its very cores.

Core Tenents

The COREN Verification System is modeled after the popular security standards, IAAA which covers identification, authentication, authorization, & accountability.

Identification

Identification stipulates that every secured system must have a mechanism in place to uniquely identify all its associated entities thus it answers the first and most pertinent question of security: Who are you?

COVERS implements identification through a physical document known as the COREN member practicing identity card.

The COREN member practicing identity card is chip-enabled thus can be used as a debit card or as an access control mechanism.

Features on the COREN member practicing identity card includes; names of the bearer, engineering branch the bearer is authorized to practice in, the COREN number & year, photograph/logo of the bearer, and dates of issuance & expiration of the card.

The COREN member practicing identity card also contains a special and unique number known as the verification number as well as a QrCode.

Authentication

Authentication stipulates that every secured system must have a mechanism in place to effectively verify all identification claims directed towards it thus it requires you to prove that you are actually who you say you are.

COVERS implements authentication through any of four (4) mechanisms.

Mobile App: Download the COVERS App and scan the QrCode on the back of the identity card.

Browser: Open any browser on any device and enter verification number of identity card.

USSD Code Open dialer on any mobile device and type in *7293*Verification number of card# and send.

SMS: Open messaging app on any mobile device and send verification number of card to 7293.

Quackery is a harmful practice

Quackery are dishonest claims or practices to have the knowledge and skills to perform specialized tasks.

Quackery leads to adverse consequences such as loss of trust, loss of revenue, engineering failures, loss of properties & lives.

Quackery is a clear and present danger to the Nigerian engineering profession and must be stamped out.
